For those who do not know, Jack Wood was the pastor of Shady Acres Baptist Church until he went to be with the LORD in 1998. My wife was saved under his ministry. He was quite the eccentric and his legacy lives on in all his "Preacher Boys!" In 1974, Bro. Jack Wood came to Shady Acres Baptist Church as Pastor. He had a burden for this area and the world. From this burden came: A Jail and Prison Ministry A Downtown Rescue Mission A Nursing Home Ministry A Street Preaching Ministry 15+ families as Missionaries all over the World

the late Pastor Jack Wood. It was this man who pointed out to Bro. Gomez many years ago that his 1909 Spanish Bible was in disagreement with the KJV concerning Dan. 3:25. Bro. Wood served as the Pastor of Shady Acres
Baptist Church in Houston, TX for many years. He was known as a very candid preacher of the Gospel, with an unmistakable compassion for sinners, and a heart for Missions. He was a friend to the late Bro. Lester Roloff.
Bro. Wood has preached in many Spanish-speaking Independent Baptist Churches that use the RV 1960. Many of the Spanish-speaking Pastors of these churches are promoted in El Fundamentalista magazine. Bro. Wood was highly respected amongst some of today’ s Hispanic fundamentalist leaders. Jack Wood was a preacher high in demand for many conferences held by Mexican Pastors. These Hispanic preachers will testify that Bro. Wood was a great influence to them. His love for the Mexican people was undeniable. He even referred to himself as being a "white Mexican".
Jack Wood was pastor of Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston, TX.
He was a major player in what some call the "Camp Meeting" crowd and served on the board of "Word For The World" Missions.

My wife was saved under his ministry and was a member of his Church right up until when she moved back to California where we met and married in a small Church in Tujunga, CA (of whom most of the members thought Jack Wood walked on water).
My wife and I "Noticed" each other the first time during the August 1988 Campmeeting but she acted really strange when I tried to hold the door for her. Found out later that their "Control" tactics had her scared of doing anything that would cause them to think that she was "Fraternizing" with the "Preacher Boys!"
God had her there getting saved and then "TEXANIZED" in preparation for us to come together a couple years later!
I first met his acquaintence when I was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in San Diego, CA (while I was out there in the Navy) and he came to preach for us. I immediately adopted Shady Acres Baptist as MY CHURCH whenever I was back home on leave. I hung out and went street preaching with all of the "Preacher Boys" as well.
Their style of music and congregational singing (what I call "Campmeeting Style" singing) had a great impact on me and I quickly adopted it with my guitar playing and singing and went waaaaaay off the IFB charts and boundaries - went over like a lead balloon at the "Model IFB Church" but who gives a rip about what they think anyway?

Bro. Jack had a few taped sermons out in circulation but not much that you can find on the internet. He really was not into "Self Promotion" and the Church didn't even have itself listed in the yellow pages! I don't even think they have a real website.
I remember when they were building their new auditorium and he said during a sermon "I wouldn't have to build this new auditorium if some of ya'll would just LEAVE!!!!" He was dead serious!!!
His philosophy on Church building programs:
"Those of you building an auditorium for the Sunday Morning crowd are just plain STUpid! You are eat up with East Texas Back Woods IGnorance!*
Whatever that Wednesday night crowd needs that PRAAAAAAYS with you and STAAAAAAAAYS with you ------- GIVE IT TO THEM!!!
And whatever that other crowd needs ------------- GIVE IT TO THEM!!!!!!!"
